Good things come to those who wait or it's really weird to be watching prime time sports at 5:30

It'd be nice to be writing from my local corner cafe, only two blocks away from my awesome apartment, knowing that in a few hour I'll be meeting friends for a bite and a few brews. Instead I'm following the Sox game on MLB Game Day and resting my legs, which are really not used to these damn hills. But seeing as I've only been in San Francisco for two full days it's OK. Now if I'm still floating around three weeks from now, then you can worry.

Now don't get me wrong. I've hardly been slumming it. In fact I have a lovely place to crash, with an amazing view of the Bay Bridge and my host is a smoking hot Aussie has made me feel more than welcome. I've even managed to sample some of the local cuisine, namely the start of my burrito excursion and the local wine scene. There's some debauchery in store this weekend and plans to meet up with the new classmates next week. But yes, it has definitely been a challenge getting settled in. I've been working the craigslist scene pretty much non-stop and trying to find something that's 1) not insanely expensive 2) not in the middle of nowhere/heart of the Tenderloin.

So my last cup of dunks is only a memory now. Instead I'm surrounded by SF Giants fans who were actually cheering Barry Bonds' last AB. Talk about weird. Yeah, weird like getting winded walking up hills on my way home. Weird like me asking a cab driver if cars can turn right on red and what time bars close. Weird like having complete strangers come up to me, because I have that "look" on my face, and asking me if I need help finding my way.

But it's all part of learning the ins and outs of a new city, dealing with some real grittiness and being away from home for the first time.
