We're not in Kansas anymore - at least Kansas has good BBQ

It's never quite the same the first time with someone new. Her lips are softer. Her tongue zigs when yours zags. And you never know, until its too late, if that soft spot behind her ear is sensitive or not. It's just different. But you give her the benefit of the doubt because you like her and she likes you. The parts fit, you both just need some time to hit your stride. And that's what the move from San Francisco to Minny has been like for me.

This is Where the Magic Happens

Notice the Celts victory towel

Notice the neatly folded clothes

Notice the abundance of snacks

Notice the Return of the Jedi sheets. Twin bed people.

Notice the sunburned roommate

Taste of the Local Flavor: Day 0 & 1

So my worst fears were almost realized. I was hungry. I wanted something quick. I was craving Mexican....Chipotle....fuck. But, what's this it was closed! It was 9 PM after all. That was a close one.

Dinner tonight: my first Jimmy Johns' experience. I'd say that it wasn't half bad. Half bad as in it's more expensive then Subway's $5 deal, but with more flavorful meat than Quiznos. Sans tomato :(

Lunch today: First meal with the kids from class. Ah, a local establishment for some local fare - the Twin Cities famed Walleye sandwich. A healthy portion of grilled white fish, similar to catfish, with a blackened crust. Not too shabby. Could have used a bit more heat and tangy tartar sauce, but overall not bad.

Dinner Sunday: Post Target meal with Texan roommate. God it's muggy. God I'm hungry. "Let's go to Applebee's." God no. Let's just go to Rock Bottom. They have beer and I know their burgers are decent. Had a beer, had a decent burger...sans tomato. :(

So in summary: chain, local, chain.

Oh, you don't say?

So this is the part where I say how nice and fucking wholesome everyone is and how it makes me want to just grow some corn.

Instead I'll say how I'm actually settling in quite nicely it. So far I've got the room all set up (pictures to come soon) and am getting to know Roommate #1. He's a fresh-faced Canadian by way of Texas and we've already shared a meal and watched the Sox game. Basically we bonded over sports (both real and fantasy) and by pulling the wool over the as-of-right-now m.i.a. Roommate #2 by switching my creaky bed frame for his non-creaky bed frame. Dems da breaks.

Observation #1: I live near a police station, a gay bar and have passed numerous panhandlers (this really surprised me) on my way to dinner. It's like I never left San Francisco.

Observation #2: I feel like I'm in college all over again. I have a twin-size bed (where I assume limited magic will happen) and I'm going to pick up a shower caddy tomorrow, lest someone else uses my loofah.

Observation #3: I've got this local thing down pat. I shopped at a Target, walked by the Metrodome and ate at a chain restaurant.

If I could do it all over again

I'd attend an all-black Southern university.

Drumming, stepping and frat branding!

So sue me

But I really enjoy movies loosely based on actual events that include end credits summarizing the post-film life of each character.
